DAYNES PIANO STUDIO POLICIES 2026-2027
Welcome to Daynes Piano Studio! I look forward to working with you and supporting your musical growth. This studio is a place where passion, dedication, and creativity come together to foster meaningful learning.
The following policies are designed to ensure clarity, professionalism, and mutual respect between teacher, student, and parent. Enrollment in lessons indicates agreement with these policies.
Practice Expectations
Consistent, thoughtful practice is essential for musical progress. Quality of practice should always take priority over quantity.
-
Students are expected to practice at least five days per week.
-
Weekly assignments will be recorded in the student’s practice notebook and should be completed before each lesson.
-
Parental involvement is required for students under age 9. A parent or guardian should supervise and assist with home practice.
-
Practice time goals will be discussed individually and adjusted as the student progresses.
Required Lesson Materials
Students must bring the following to every lesson, organized in a dedicated piano bag:
-
Practice binder (provided by the teacher)
-
Assigned method books (lesson, performance, theory, technique)
-
Any supplementary materials assigned
Parents/guardians are responsible for purchasing all materials (except the notebook).
Students must also have regular access to a well-maintained acoustic piano that is tuned at least twice per year.

-
Group classes or informal performance days
-
Adjudicated events and festivals (e.g., MTNA/NMTA, local competitions)
-
University events (when applicable)
Students should consistently prepare at least one performance-ready piece. Participation builds confidence, reinforces goals, and celebrates progress. Details about specific events will be shared throughout the year and may vary based on studio enrollment.
Make-Up Lesson Policy
Tuition reserves a weekly lesson time, not attendance at individual lessons.
-
Make-up lessons are not offered for missed lessons
-
If a student is absent, a sibling or parent may use the lesson time
-
If the teacher must cancel (due to illness, performance, or emergency), a make-up lesson will be scheduled
Summer Semester
The summer semester also includes 12 lessons, but scheduling is flexible:
-
The teacher will provide available dates each month
-
Families may sign up for lesson times that fit their schedule
Attendance & Studio Etiquette
-
Arrive no more than 3 minutes early to minimize disruption
-
Late arrivals will receive the remaining lesson time only
-
Parents are welcome to observe lessons
-
If observation becomes distracting or disruptive, the parent may be asked to wait outside
Discontinuation of Lessons
-
A 30-day written notice is required to discontinue lessons.
-
Without notice, one additional month of tuition will be charged
If the teacher initiates termination, lessons will conclude at the end of the current month
Reasons for dismissal may include:
-
Repeated disregard for studio policies
-
Consistent lack of practice or preparation
-
Disrespectful or inappropriate behavior
